Liberty Spears & Grace Garnier – It’s Up To Me And You (Ella Fitzgerald)

Jersey born Mezzo-Soprano, Liberty Spears, graduated last year with a 1st class BMus Hons degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. 

Here along with pianist Grace Garnier she performs ‘It’s Up To Me And You’, a song written and recorded by Ella Fitzgerald in 1968 for Pastor Martin Luther King, who had been murdered in April that year. Liberty says “Fitzgerald’s sentimental delivery highlighted the emotion with which she sought to honour King’s memory and to advocate the nonviolent pursuit of social justice and racial integration. The lyrics of this song are as poignant now as they were then. In support of the #blm movement, I chose to cover this powerfully beautiful song”.
